Palestine has my heart in a way no one has ever had my heart before -
Except maybe God,
And the truth is, as much as I remind myself to look for God in every person I see and in every person I meet,
When I see the people of Palestine
I don’t need to be reminded
Because in them,
In them, I truly see God,
No effort required.
It’s like the soils of their souls are made from the holy soil of their land
They emit the blinding light of truth in such profound darkness
They illuminate what it means to be human
in a world which doesn’t see them as human
Their unwavering spirit, their indomitable faith
- in a world becoming more secular by the second -
paves the way to the God within each and every one of us.
They have every reason to hate,
yet they do not hate,
they have every reason to curse,
yet they do not curse,
They have every reason to give up
Yet they keep on, keep on going…
I do not know how to become a person like that
One who is absolutely certain that justice will come
Whose heart is interwoven with the pillar of faith
Who, while carrying the pieces of their child in a plastic carrier bag,
still calls upon God and praises Him.
I do not know how to be a person like that
How do you become a person like that
I do not know how to be a person like that.
I am in awe of the people of Palestine
Have you seen the evil they are being subjected to
The hell that is raining down upon them
Have you seen how they keep getting up
Despite being pushed down again and again and again
They hold so many lessons for us should we wish to take them
They carry such light, if we would allow our hearts to see it
They are the Truth in this world full of deception and lies
They are the beauty emerging from the ugliest parts of humanity
They are the other side of the coin in every single way
And I pray
I pray I pray I pray
That the rest of us continue to awaken from our blind deaf deep slumber
And I pray
That the whole world becomes Palestine
Day by day by day
And as it does
perhaps this world will actually become a better place.
I pray.
I pray.
I pray.

Stream of Consciousness Poetry)
‘Diary of a Seeker’ is the raw and unedited part of my Substack ‘The Heart of Being Human’. This is sent out on Wednesdays and is a collection of poetry, prose and stream-of-consciousness writings all to do with the spiritual-human experience.
If any of these posts resonate or touch you, please do share with a friend. I appreciate you and I love you. Thank you for being here.
Not much to say, as you’ve said it all. Ameen to all your prayers!🙏🏼 May the horrors rained down upon the best of us remind us they are still our brothers and sisters in humanity. We play a role in what is happening to them. We can play a role in ending it, too.🙏🏼
You have captured precisely how I have come to see the Palestinians. As a practicing Catholic I can only admire their faith, hope and love - the three theologal virtues. They also embody all the Beatitudes. What a mysterious truth they are teaching the world!
