Dear friend,
How are you, beloved? And how is your beautiful heart?
It has been such a long time since I last wrote to you. So long, in fact, that this is the first time since we entered 2024 that I have put fingers to keys and actually written something. And now I feel like I can finally exhale. Dramatic much? Perhaps. Yet there is no other way to describe the feeling.
I think it’s fair to say that 2024 has already given me heaps of material to reflect and write on. My strength, patience, endurance, faith and even more have been pushed and stretched to limits beyond what I knew were even possible for me. With such intense energetic shifts and openings I feel that as a collective, perhaps many of us are feeling the same way.
There have been breakdowns and breakthroughs; there have been ancient wounds sliced open once more, the pain compensated with the profound healing and insights that have come through. There has been heartbreak and despair as we have continued to bear witness to world events; yet there have been such incredible glimpses of hope and light as we witness the power, strength and beauty of the Palestinian people and everyone with the courage to stand with them, and all that they represent. There has been light and darkness; there have been difficult conversations, traumatic experiences, the battles of lies with Truth, closed-mindedness and the awakening of hearts all across the world.
And doesn’t that all tie in so wonderfully with all that it means to be human? To embrace every part of every piece on the spectrum of this human experience. To allow ourselves to feel; to permit ourselves to be broken down and opened up and laid bare; to enable ourselves space for change and healing and transformation.
And isn’t that what it means to be human? To let ourselves see the horrors and the beauty of humanity all at once. To bear witness to the genocides that we swore “never again” to; to bear witness to all the places in our own lives where we have given our power away. Isn’t being human taking personal responsibility and giving ourselves the authority to take action within ourselves and outside ourselves to create a better world for all of humanity? For those who are currently here, and for all those generations yet to come.
For me, The (He)art of Being Human is the acceptance and celebration of every single little thing that adds up to the totality of this human experience.
It’s the knowing that we are not just human beings - it’s the knowing that we are spiritual beings experiencing this human being miracle. The Heart of Being Human allows us to see through the illusion of this world and everything we have been conditioned to see, feel, think and believe while empowering us to fully embrace every single little part of it and to realise that although we can be in it fully, we can also be free of it.
And for that reason, I decided to change the name of this newsletter from Letters of Love & Light to The Heart of Being Human. I feel it expresses more fully what I wish to share here - all with the aim of enlightening, opening, awakening, liberating and healing. There may be subject matters that intrigue you, entice you, excite you; equally, there may be titles that trigger you, make you question yourself, and maybe even some that make you want to unsubscribe. I welcome all that wishes to flow through me to reach you - after all, that is me embracing the heart of being human for myself. I encourage you to embrace your humanity in its entirety, too.
I hope you will stick around as we venture on and explore this human being miracle together. And if there is anyone that comes to mind as you read these words, please share this Substack and invite them along on the journey, too.
Ultimately, as Ram Dass said,
“We’re all just walking each other Home. We need each other.”
I’m excited and honoured to be journeying with you. See you next Sunday, same time, same place.
With Love, Light & Peace,
Sabah x
Check out one of my latest videos on my artsy spiritual YouTube channel. I particularly LOVE creating these art/meditation/inspiration videos and if you’re a subscriber to this newsletter, I have a feeling you might like them too!💛
🖋What I’ve been writing: Honestly, nothing up until now 😥 but that’s all set to change. However, I have been posting a lot of stream-of-consciousness videos on my Instagram and TikTok. Check them out and let’s connect there too 😊
📚What I’m reading: Welcome Home by Najwa Zebian - a self-help and healing book all about creating a stable and solid foundation and home within yourself. It’s a powerful and beautiful read so far.
🎧What I’m listening to: The Witch Trials of J.K.Rowling - Flippin’ ‘eck, this is fantastic. I’m not finished yet but I highly recommend it, even if just for the production value.
💭Quote I’m contemplating: “This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honourably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” - Master Rumi.

Nice to meet you, Sabah. I can’t wait to read more of you and your journey as a spiritual being in a human body. I like Rumi’s quote at the end of your post. I usually like all Rumi’s wise quotes but I’ve loved seeing each day as a blank emotionnal slate to be filled. Every morning, after my meditation, I ask my guides what is the energy for today through a 2 cards tarot reading and see what matches at the end of the day. I love surprises and every day is joyfully full of new surprises; I welcome them all, pleasant or painful, for they are what the Heart of Being Human is for me. Lots of love.
Ditto what Khalid said! Substack felt lonely without you. You have a way of taking all the pain you’ve been through, that we’ve all been through, and putting it into perspective. I particularly liked the idea you share that “although we can be in it fully, we can also be free of it.” This life has a way of sinking its teeth into us, such that striking the right balance between being intensely engrossed in it, while still maintaining healthy boundaries feels impossible. Your gentle, coaxing, wise, and wonderful voice was deeply missed.❤️ Looking forward to next Sunday!
